More traffic law enforcement officers have been deployed on national roads to enforce traffic laws and regulations and prevent road crashes and injuries this festive season.

Namibian Police chief, inspector general Joseph Shikongo, said this was done to ensure safety and show the police’s commitment towards keeping road users safe.

He made the remarks at the launch of the Festive Season Road Safety Campaign 2022/2023 on Wednesday.

The campaign commenced on 16 November and will run until 20 January 2023.

"The importance of a message on road safety cannot be overemphasised. Our road users need to be informed about what the law enforcement agencies are doing and what is expected of them to keep our roads safe."

Shikongo appealed to road users to obey traffic laws and regulations, underlining that this is the only way to improve road safety.

He added that the police will leave no stone unturned to ensure that the laws and regulations are enforced.
