Rossmund Golf News

The past weekend was very busy at the Rossmund Golf Club with several competitions coming to a close before the great influx of inland residents.

The final round of the 2022 Monthly Medal sponsored by Novanam was played on Saturday 26 November. Weather conditions were actually just great for golf, resulting in some good scores being posted. Achmet Abrahams was however already sitting in the driving seat for the Medal Master so he could relax and enjoy his golf. Strangely enough John Horne was the only player to produce a two- club on the day.

The Overall Medal Winner for the Month was none other than Steven Johns carding a brilliant 69nett; Helmut Ndjendja took the laurels in the “A” Division with a 71nett; Bertie Saunderson had a 72nett to win the “B” Division; whilst the “C” Division was decided on a count out on 70nett, won by Eddy van Wyk. The Ladies Division was won by Tiekie De Wet with a 77nett and the Junior Division by Kevin Zhang 83nett.

In the Overall Order of Merit for 2022 the results were as follows: Mens Division: 1st: Achmet Abrahams 116pts; 2nd: Hans Naobeb 98pts; 3rd: Helmut Ndjendja 98pts; 4th: George Murasiki 94pts: Junior Division: Kevin Zhang 55pts; Ladies Division: Tiekie De Wet 51pts.

We say thank you to Miguel Tordesillas, chairman Novanam for his ongoing support of this very important series on the annual Rossmund Golf Club calendar and to his right hand lady Robertha Jansen for always being there month in and month out. We are looking forward to competing again in 2023. Sadly Miguel could not be present on the day but sent the RGC and its members a heartfelt message via whatsapp. We look forward to seeing him out there on the fairways again soon and take this opportunity to wish him and his family a relaxing festive season.

The winners of the 2022 Matchplay Tournament were also announced – Doubles: Helmut Ndjendja and Thomas Shitaleni; Singles Champion: Helmut Ndjendja – well played to all the competitors and thank you for a great competition played and finalized on schedule (just). We played our annual Golfer/Non- Golfer Fun Day organized by the Ladies RGC Section on Sunday 27 November.

The modus operandi is to introduce new blood into this wonderful game that we call golf. A total of 24 teams took part in the chilly, windy weather conditions. It was a wonderful sight to watch the players teeing off from all walks of life; young and old; Moms and Dads; Oumas with grandkids; kids with their friends; high handicappers and low handicappers. In the end everyone had a fantastic day - especially the children – who can all be really proud of themselves for having taken part and coming forward to collect their prizes.

The winners on the day with a brilliant 19nett were Fritz Coetzee Jnr and his partner Ruan (brother) winning a count out over Father & Son Team Lensing (Peter and Peter Jnr). Prizes were awarded to all the non-golfers who took part.
