A group of coastal soccer fanatics joined forces and came up with the Battle of the Coast soccer tournament concept. The first tournament will take place on 6 August at the Jan Wilken Stadium in Walvis Bay. The chairman of the Battle of the Coast organising committee Robert Shimooshili, explained that the tournament with six coastal teams competing, will activate football and bring the "beautiful" game" closer to the people in towns within the region. "The venue for the event this weekend has been booked and confirmed. With this tournament we also aim to assist the players as well as keep them busy on the pitch. We intend to use all funds generated via the event for well-being of soccer players." The first match will be between Blue Birds Football Club and Young Elevens Football Club at 12:00. The winning team will walk away with N$5000, plus a trophy. The second match will be between Blue Boys F.C and Western Spurs F.C at 14:00, with the winning team pocketing N$7000, plus a trophy. The last match of the day will be between premier league giants Blue Waters F.C and Eleven Arrows F.C at 16:00. Here the winner will take home N$10000, plus a trophy. Blue Boy's vice captain Christian Gawanab welcomed the opportunity to play competitive soccer again. "We have been in active for months, that's why we as players, are grateful toward the organising committee for coming up with this idea. We pray and hope that more opportunities like this come our way, so that we can remain active." Shimooshili invited interested food vendors to make use of the opportunity. "They can pay a fee of N$250 and set up a stall inside the stadium. We will not allow drinks to be taken inside the stadium by spectators or vendors. Those with cooler boxes will be charged N$100. The gate takings and profits from the sale of drinks will be equally shared by the six participating clubs." He highlighted that this will be an ongoing project. "Our next tournament will be held in Swakopmund. We will host the event at different towns within the coastal area. We want football lovers to come in numbers, in support of their favourite clubs and to enjoy their favourite sport." The entrance fee for for children under the age of 14 entrance and vehicles will be N$10. Adults pay N$20. [email protected]
