Westmed, a local supplier of medical goods and services, was established in 2018.
According to general manager Mandi van der Lith, the company’s vision is to be the “next-door neighbour” supplier in medical goods and services.
“We offer a wide range of services which include delivering goods to all medical and healthcare facilities in the Erongo region, within one or two hours after your order was placed. We have equipment readily available to the public and facilities with a technician available at the coast.”
Van der Lith says Westmed’s strong network throughout Southern Africa gives the company and added advantage. “This enables us to provide better service and products at affordable rates. We also provide continued education and training to staff and healthcare professionals.”
Van der Lith adds that the medical equipment supplier was not spared the brunt of the Covid-19 pandemic. “We faced severe supply chain issues. Goods and services were not readily available, and we experienced large price increases as demand across the globe far exceeded supply.”
This is still the case, for instance that since April 2020, the price of raw nitrile increased by 195%.
“Demand has exploded while supply is only growing incrementally. This resulted in hefty price increases on nitrile gloves. We are unsure when and if this will stabilize again. We ask that our clients bear with us while we try to manage this situation.”
In terms of maintaining hygiene levels which are essential during a pandemic, Westmed stocks stock various Covid-19 related products.
“Our RBT Viridis Foggie Machines are 100% biodegradable and 99.999% effective against the Coronavirus. We recently renovated our warehouses to increase our storage capacity and strive to deliver complete orders in a minimum amount of time.”
