The search is on for a gang of robbers in connection with an attempted murder and theft which occurred at farm Kanona south of Omaruru.
Namibian Police Force crime investigation coordinator for the Erongo region, deputy commissioner Erastus Iikuyu confirmed that an investigation team from Walvis Bay was dispatched to the Omaruru area to assist the local team with the investigation.
He added that no arrests were made so far and none of the items stolen had been recovered as yet.
According to Iikuyu, two armed suspects approached the farm house on Monday at around 21:00.
“The suspects covered their faces. They grabbed a woman (48) and tried to force her into the house. The victim (a Namibian woman) was alone at home busy in the yard when the incident happened.”
The victim managed to free herself, jumped into her vehicle and drove towards the gate while calling for help on a long distance radio.
“A third suspect hiding in the bush started shooting at the vehicle and in the process shot the victim in the mouth and her left lower leg. She was rescued by other farmers, taken to Omaruru state hospital in a critical but stable condition and then transferred to Windhoek for medical treatment.”
The suspects entered the house and removed a laptop and a telescope.
“It is believed that they were on foot with a getaway vehicle waiting for them on the main road area.”
The investigation continues. Anyone with information or who knows the whereabouts of the suspects is requested to contact Det. W/O Ndeshi Tiofelus on 0813272505, Det. Sgt. Sam Shitima 0813049064 or the nearest police station.
