Winner of Winners playoffs

Walvis Bay Golf Club News

02 December 2019 | Sports

All Saturday winners throughout the year competed against each other for the annual honours while the ‘not so lucky’ players fought it out for the Winner of Losers prizes.

It seems as if the tradition was started back in 1985, so this was the 34th year of keeping another Walvis Bay golf tradition alive.

We also had a new sponsor on board in IT Guru who pledged to be back for at least another two years!

Thirty six players entered and conditions on the day were quite tough. Playing medal golf in a typical Walvis Bay South Westerly breeze was again not easy for most.

Coming out on top of the Winners’ section was none other than Wouter van Wijk with a 72 net.

He was followed on 73 by Tienie de Wet who beat Carlos Gouveia in the count-out on lowest handicap.

Winner of the Losers’ section was Deville Dreyer, also on 73 who got the better of Estelle Bothma on 74. Two clubs were scored by Johnny Borges, David Peake and Mario Polster.

At the start of the day twelve players were still fighting it out for the top 4 spots in the Air Namibia, Race to Cape Town (RtCT) event. Nardo, Pietie and David all had a disappointing day.

The following four players qualified for the finals to be played this Saturday: Deville Dreyer (despite a 10 on hole 17), Justine Grobler, Tienie de Wet and Koot Potgieter.

Up for grabs are two return, regional air tickets for the winner. The Winner of Wednesday Winners finals will be this week too – the list is on the Notice board.

This past Saturday we hosted the very popular Namib Mills Betterball Stableford where Gousie and his team again spoiled all the players to bits!

The four RtCT finalists played together and competed in an Individual Stableford against each other. They selected partners for the Namib Mills BBall score afterwards.

The previous Friday’s members draw was won by Jaans Stander but the Joker continues evading all, including Nardo. The pool has now increased to a very handy N$34,400.
