Wanderers crowned T20 Premier League champions

Wanderers defeated the MR 24/7 Welwitschia cricket team with 4 runs in a nail-biting T20 Premier League final in Windhoek.

Wanderers won the toss, elected to bat first and scored 124 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. JC Balt was the top run scorer for Wanders with 37 (including three 4’s and two 6’s) from 39 balls. Colin Schoonbee also added 22 runs (including two 4’s) from 23 balls. Jaco Le Roux (for 19 runs from 4 overs) and Fungai Hlupo (for 19 runs from 4 overs) each took two wickets for MR 24/7 Welwitschia.

The coastal side were restricted by disciplined and consistent bowling dished up by the Wanderers bowlers, and managed to score 122 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Marco Malan was the best batsman for MR 24/7 Welwitschia with 27 runs (including two 6’s) from 23 balls. Dewald Nel was the top wicket taker for Wanderers. He took four wickets for 36 runs from 4 overs.

Semi-final

MR 24/7 Welwitschia defeated Windhoek High School Old Boys Cricket Club (WHSOBCC) with 5 wickets in the one T20 Premier League semi-final match. WHSOBCC won the toss, elected to bat first and scored 120 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Malan Binneman Kruger was the top runs scorer with 37 (including two 4’s and one 6) from 31 balls.

Nyasha Nyasha was in fine form for MR 24/7 Welwitschia and claimed three wickets for 20 runs in 4 overs. Sean Silver scored 50 runs (including four 4’s and two 6’s) of 45 balls for MR 24/7 Welwitschia and was named man of the match. Matthew De Gouviea (not out) also added 35 runs (including two 4’s and two 6’s) from 28 balls. Divan La Cock was the best bowler for WHSOBCC with 2 wickets for 8 runs in 4 overs.

Early defeat

The MR 24/7 Welwitschia cricket team were dealt a 3-wicket defeat by Wanderers on Saturday. Wanderers won the toss and elected to bowl first. MR 24/7 Welwitschia scored 105 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Nyasha Nyasha was the best batman with 57 runs (including eight 4’s and one 6) from 44 balls). This performance earned him the man of the match award.

Nicolaas Scholtz (8 runs from 2 over) and Ruben Classen (3 runs from 2 overs) each took two wickets for Wanderers. Wessel Myburg was the top run maker for Wanderers. He scored 55 (including three 4’s and three 6’s) from 52 balls. Colin Schoonbee also added 18 runs from 22 balls. Christiaan Delport was the best bowler for MR 24/7 Welwitschia. He took 3 wickets for 6 runs in 3 overs. Fungai Hlupo also took 2 wickets for 23 runs from 3 overs.
