Walvis Bay Golf Club news

04 June 2021 | Sports

Last week, Walvis Bay Golf Club (WBGC) played against the visiting Tsumeb Golf Club team of 22 players.

It was 11 teams versus 11 teams, playing stableford match play.

The competition started well for the club, with Shane Westerdale and Jens Paschke coming in with a winning score of 7 and 5. Unfortunately, the second team of Kurt Brits and Wouter van Wijk were beaten 7 and 6.

After that it was all WBGC with only Boel Grobelaar and Andre Burger dropping their game 2 down.

Grant Mather and Poena Johnson left it late to win 1 up as did Pieter Fox and Gert Olivier who won 2 and 1.

After all was said and done, it can be described as a handsome 9-2 win.

At the end of the day, it was the golf that won, and it was great to renew old friendships and the club is looking forward to the return leg in Tsumeb.

The other competition was won by Christo van Rensburg and Bertus Strauss on a solid 50 points, with David Peake and Danie Greeff second on 49 points and winning the count out from Fanie Coetzer and Stephan Coetzer.

Thomas Wolff and Bertus Venter were fourth on 48 points winning the count out from Roche Pitout and Juvan Pitout.

All in all, there were 18 prizes up for grabs, excluding the nearest to the pin which was won by Joseph Nugurib, Emile Vilbert, Anton van Rensburg and Gert Olivier.

The club thanks the sponsors Pieter Fox, Jaco de Witt, Herman Smidt, Carlos de Gouveia, Johnny G, Attie van der Westhuizen and Nardo Sardinha.

This weekend will be a hidden sponsor competition, format is individual stableford. With it looking like the east wind is going to pump, watch the members’ platforms for updated details.
