Walvis Bay Golf Club abuzz

Golf reigns supreme

29 October 2019 | Sports

Stanley Gawanab won the best gross on the day with a good 73 while Kevin de Reuck won the best net with a jolly fine 71.

The ‘A’ division best net was won by Tiennie de Wet on 78 while the ‘B’ division was won by Justine Grobler on 72.

Chairman Carlos de Gouveia won the ‘C’ division on 74.

The club have also incorporated a stableford competition on the same day as the medal and this was won by Poch Alchin on 36 points while Jonas Niilenge was second on 34 points.

Two clubs were recorded by Jaco Greef and Emile Vilbert. The jackpot was not won.

The player who made good use of his green fees on the day was Chris Bothma. No score will be mentioned other than to say it was a good innings if he batted first.

The Air Namibia Race to Cape Town competition is getting down to the last few. Thanks to Wouter van Wijk for the upkeep of the leader board, and Air Namibia for the sponsorship.

Rugby continues to play havoc with our golf programme but it is the last of it this weekend. As a result of this and because we are hosting about 50 juniors some of whom have to play 36 holes on Saturday, there will be no official golf this weekend.

Those that would like to play can fall in after the juniors have started the second 18 holes. The juniors will tee off from 7h00.

The competition and sponsor for this weekend has been shifted. Don’t forget the Meersig NGK Gemeente fund raiser on 22 November and the SPCA fund raiser on 6 December.

The committee have been on about repairing divots and pitch marks. Please support them here and repair the marks even if they are not yours. Also please remember to rake the bunkers, it is just good course etiquette.

The club has installed the Pay Today facility for all sales and green fees. Please make use of it as it makes the life of the manager a bit easier.

The happy JOKER continues to evade capture and the jackpot was at 24 500 last week where Oom Pikkie Champion had a chance to win, but alas it was not to be.

On the point of oom Pikker se ons “baie geluk met oom se verjaarsdag asook tannie Pikkie sowel as baie sterkte!” Altwee het 80 geword in die week.

Don’t forget that Friday night is the JOKER PLUS.

All those who have bought tickets during the month stand a chance to win 500 bucks, but you need to be at the club to win the lolly. There is only one chance, it will not be drawn until won.

The members draw was won by Altus van der Westhuisen. He became N$ 500 richer for just being that the club at 18h00. Members must please remember that you really have to be in the club for the draw.
