Unam Henties-kampus: Opknappings vertraag

Die Universiteit van Namibië (Unam) is bewus van die huidige toestand van sommige van die geboue by die Sam Nujoma-kampus op Hentiesbaai, aldus die universiteit se waarnemende direkteur vir korporatiewe aangeleenthede en internasionale betrekkinge, Johannes Haufiku.

Volgens Haufiku het die tersiêre instelling die opknapping van die geboue as 'n prioriteit gelys en aandag sal daaraan geskenk word sodra finansies dit toelaat.

“Unam se bestuur is bewus van die situasie. Die opknapping en herstel van die eenhede is hoog op ons lys, maar word vertraag weens begro­tingsbeperkings,” het hy aangevoer.

Hy het beklemtoon die oorsaak van die agteruitgang van hierdie geboue is weens slytasie en weers­toestande by die kus.

“Ons het die geboue geoormerk vir opknapping en die vervanging van dakke. Dit sluit die ou biblioteek, die laboratorium, motorhuis, stoorplek en die klein kafeteria in. Slytasie het hierdie strukture verniel. Dit is veral as gevolg van die weer langs die kus – 'n situasie wat vererger is deur baie sterk ooswinde,” het Haufiku gesê.

Sy verduideliking het gevolg ná 'n Facebook-plasing deur oudjoernalis Christo Retief, wat die toestand van die Unam-kampus op Hentiesbaai betreur het.

“Die verwoesting en verval van staatseiendom in Namibië woed een­voudig voort. By die Sam Nujoma-kampus van Unam op Hentiesbaai is die ontspanningsaal op die suidelike duinoewer van die Omarururivier besig om uitmekaar te val en niks word skynbaar gedoen om die verval te stuit nie. Dakplate is weg, die skoorsteen van die braaiplek het ingeval en die plafon sak al weens die gewig van sandmassas wat op die dak saampak,” het Retief geskryf.

Haufiku het daarop gewys daar is geen braaiplek by die Sam Nujoma-kampus op die 100 hektaar-terrein noord van Hentiesbaai nie.

Die kampus huisves beide die Sam Nujoma Mariene- en Navorsingsentrum vir kusbronne (SANUMARC) en die departement van visserye en waterwetenskappe.
