Twenty-eight new Covid-19 cases, 22 recoveries

05 October 2020 | Health

The minister of health Dr Kalumbi Shangula announced 28 new Covid-19 cases, 22 recoveries and two Covid-19 deaths. He said that 600 results were received from the laboratories over the weekend. Of the new cases, ten are male and 18 are female, with the youngest aged 11 and the oldest 71.

The confirmed cases are distributed as follows: Windhoek (12), Oshakati (6), Mariental (4), Walvis Bay (3), Okahandja (1), Rundu (1) and Karasburg (1).

According to the minister, the laboratories are testing lower numbers of samples over the weekends especially on Sundays, which explains the low numbers announced today.

“This should not give us a wrong message that Covid-19 is over. We encourage people to get tested so that when we report few cases, we know that we have really tested all who require testing. This will inform the decisions being taken and will help us with tracking the trend of the Covid-19 situation in the country.”

The minister announced 22 recoveries in the Hardap (18), Omusati (2) and Ohangwena (2) regions.

The two Covid-19 deaths occurred in Windhoek. The deaths are that of a woman (53) and a man (58) who both died on the same day and in hospital. Both had comorbidities.

The minister said that of the active cases, eight are either in serious or critical conditions. In the Erongo region, one patient is critically ill, while in the Khomas region, one patient is seriously ill, and seven are in critical condition.
