Award-winning musician Monica “Top Cheri” Pinias (29) is overjoyed after her music video for her hit “Calling Heaven” reached one million views on YouTube.

“Honestly, the feeling is out of this world! There are no words that can describe how it feels,” said Top Cheri.

The song’s concept is centred on providing bereavement for those who have lost someone who is dear to them.

Top Cheri, who is originally from Walvis Bay and currently lives in Windhoek, won two awards at the 2019 NBC/MTC Namibia Annual Music Awards (NAMAs) for Best Newcomer and Album of the Year for her album, Fertile.

Fellow musicians flooded her with congratulatory messages on Facebook for the video which was uploaded on YouTube during November 2019.

“Your dreams are valid now and always,” said rapper, Tesh Lavo.

Radio personalities and producers also applauded her.

“Well done, Top Cheri for reaching one million views. You truly deserve it,” said 99FM producer and singer, Chris Wayne.

Top Cheri played an instrumental role in PDK’s domination of the 2020 NBC/MTC NAMAs. She featured on the award’s Song of the Year “Saka” by PDK.

The song also features her Blvc Boxx stablemates Athawise and King Elegant.

Having recently released her sophomore album Tithe, more success is expected to flow the way of the talented artist.

Another milestone

In other music news, 2020 MTC/NBC NAMAs Artist of the Decade, Lazarus “Gazza” Shiimi (43), also reached a milestone with the music video for his smash hit “Chelete” reaching five million views by 19 December.

“We couldn’t have done this without you! It’s always rewarding to see that people mess with your craft!” Gazza posted on his official Instagram handle.

The views for the video that was uploaded in October 2018, are more than double the population of Namibia and no musician from the Land of the Brave has ever achieved this.

Award-winning duo, One Blood, are among the other Namibian musicians who have reached the one million view milestone for their hits “Warakata” and “Kangaroo”.
