Toestelle het niks met Covid-19 te doen nie

Dit is nie 5G-toestelle nie, maar Wi-Fi-toegangspunte wat op 'n aantal lamppale by die kus aangebring is.

Demshi Investment Holdings (DIH) het gerugte op sosiale media ontken dat 5G-toestelle op lamppale in Sam Nujomalaan in Swakopmund en in Sam Nujomalaan in Walvisbaai geïnstalleer is.

Die Windhoekse onderneming wat internetdienste lewer, het inwoners by die kus ingelig dat die toerusting wat op lamppale aangebring is, Wi-Fi-toestelle is en nie 5G-toestelle nie.

Die maatskappy sê foto's van lamppale met die genoemde toestelle daarop, is op sosiale media versprei om valse gerugte en vrees aan te wakker te midde van die Covid-19 pandemie.

Volgens gerugte is die toestelle aan die begin van die noodtoestand en inperkingstyd geïnstalleer. Daar word geïmpliseer dat die installering daarvan die rede is vir die pandemie en ook die inperking van die Erongostreek.

Die maatskappy het gesê hoewel daar onlangs sewe Wi-Fi-punte in Swakopmund en Walvisbaai aangebring is, is dit reeds in Januarie gedoen en nie in die inperkingstyd nie.

Die toerusting wat gebruik is, is die Cambium ePMP Force 200 en Cambium e510 Wi-Fi-punt vir buitenshuise gebruik.

Die maatskappy het voorts gesê hulle het begrip vir inwoners se kommer te midde van die massas verkeerde inligting wat deur sosiale media versprei word, maar dat daar geen verband tussen die pandemie, 5G-toestelle en Wi-Fi-toegangspunte is nie.

"Ons het 'n pandemie teëgekom wat slegs bekamp kan word as ons almal optree volgens die inligting en maatreëls wat deur die regering ingestel is. Valse inligting rakende Covid-19 en die installering van 5G-tegnologie kan verwoestende gevolge vir ons land hê,” het DIH gesê.

DIH het twee jaar gelede 'n ooreenkoms met Telecom Namibia aangegaan wat meegebring het dat die maatskappy die eerste Namibiese mobiele virtuele netwerkoperateur geword het.
