Three new Covid cases reported Swakopmund

No new recoveries for Erongo

The minister of health and social services Dr. Kalumbi Shangula, announced that 88 of 147 Covid-19 test results received from the laboratories tested positive.

Of the newly reported cases, 53 are male and 35 female, with the youngest patient being a four year old child and the oldest 60-years of age.

Three of these cases are from Swakopmund. The Oshikoto region reported 38 cases, Khomas 24, Kavango East 11, Oshana 7, //Kharas 2 and Otjozondjupa, Omaheke and Omusati one new case each.

The minister said that 38 cases reported from Onandjokwe in Oshikoto are all from a local high school. “It is likely that there has been an active transmission for a while which was not noticed. Usually, young adults are generally asymptomatic or get mild symptoms. More results are still pending,” Shangula said.

The minister also announced that a 54-year old female from the capital lost her life due to Covid-19. She had multiple known comorbidities and presented herself to a healthcare facility on 6 August.

She was swabbed on 27 August and on 29 August her results returned positive. She passed away on 26 September after her condition severely deteriorated.

Of the 11 recoveries announced nationwide, none are from the Erongo region. They are from Khomas (5), //Kharas (3), Omaheke (1), Ohangwena (1) and Hardap (1).
