Die plaaslike skrywer Clarice Theys het onlangs haar nuwe boek “Hier om te skitter” vrygestel.

Die nuutste toevoeging is haar vierde boek en volg na haar debuut Rehoboth – Waar my Hart is, Basterpoeding vir die Siel en Eendag op ’n Stormdag.

Volgens Theys is haar nuutste boek soos ’n onverwagse swangerskap.

“Ek het hierdie jaar probeer fokus op ander skryfprojekte wat lank op die ‘back burner’ geplaas is, maar my muse wou net nie ‘ja’ sê nie.”

Sy sê met 2020 se vreemde begin en hoe sy by die skielike “nuwe normaal” moes probeer aanpas, was dit moeilik.

“Ek reageer natuurlik rebels as goeters wat nie met my roetine strook nie, op my afgedwing word. Maar dié keer was dit anders. Ek het nie ’n keuse gehad nie.”

Sy sê sy het werklik gesukkel om in ’n nuwe roetine in te kom, en het by tye haarself oorgegee aan “binge”-fliek op NetFlix en “die groot eet”.

“Ek was weerloos en dit was nogal nie ’n lekker gevoel nie.”

Dit was juis haar weerloosheid wat meegebring het dat sy diep in haar emosies kon tap.

“Ek het oor my opstand wat ek gedurende die grendeltyd ervaar het begin skryf, maar niks wou kom vir die bestaande projekte nie. Ek het toe maar vir ’n rukkie my fokus na verf verskuif en nogal ’n paar van my werke op ’n kaal muur opgehang. Dit was net wat ek nodig gehad het.”

Dis toé dat die geboortepyne begin het.

“Hier om te Skitter het haarself in my baarmoeder tuisgemaak en binne vier maande het sy die lig gesien.”
Hier om te Skitter is ’n skemerkelkie vol pragtige sketse, gedigte en ’n bietjie nostalgie.

“Ek’s passievol en doelgerig wanneer ’n idee homself aan my openbaar, want ek wil graag inspireer. Hier neem ek my lesers saam op die vele paaie wat die lewe bied. Ek sien myself soms as ’n pelgrim op die nimmereindigende reis met sy diep misterie en onbeantwoorde vrae. Ek deel wat ek weet van onvoorwaardelike vergifnis en liefde asook die ongekompliseerde geestelike soeke. Ons maak dit soms baie gekompliseerd.”

Op dié stadium is die boek net by Theys self beskikbaar aangesien sy net ’n beperkte oplaag laat druk het.

“Die idee is om dit betyds vir Kersfees te hê want dis ’n ideale Kersgeskenk vir ’n ma, suster, vriendin en dogter. Dit behoort teen 23 Desember by die Kus bekendgestel te word. Daarna sal ek vroeg in die nuwe jaar nog kopieë laat druk vir Windhoek en die res van die land.”

Theys sê sy stem volkome saam met Len Deighton wat sê dat enigiemand ’n boek kan skryf.

“Selfs politici doen dit. Maar om ’n tweede en derde boek te skryf, openbaar die intensie om ’n professionele skrywer te word. Ek is op daai pad. So ja, nog ’n boek of drie is beslis op die horison. Ek gaan nou eers bietjie vir die res van die jaar uitspan en dan sal ek met my bestaande projekte voortgaan. Dit gaan fokus verg maar ek's reg daarvoor.”
