Hero Multisave Supermarket emerged as the top butchery, Mobi Soft Serve as the top mobile kiosk and Museums Café as the top Bistros in a hygiene and safety competition organised by the municipality of Swakopmund’s health department.

Such practices and standards are essential to prevent foodborne illnesses.

The competition featured categories for bistros and coffee shops, restaurants, takeaways, mobile kiosks and trailers, butcheries and general food establishments.

Evaluations of the various premises took place on 25 November and ended on 29 November last year. The first, second and third place winners were announced at a prizegiving on 13 December during the Swakopmund Summer Fair and Food Festival.

Speaking at that event, former mayor of Swakopmund, Paulina Nashilundo, congratulated the winners and encouraged businesses to maintain the hygiene of food in their respective trades. “Good food hygiene allows businesses in Swakopmund to provide safe food that contributes to a healthy and productive society.
