There’s no better way to end the month of August than by releasing a brand new book.

Local author, creativity trainer and speaker Brandt von West released his new book Think Like a Negotiator online on Monday afternoon. He says the title is self-explanatory.

“It's a book that aims to teach you how to start as a negotiator. I have found that many people just never negotiate for what they want. There is some sort of mental block that tells them that if they can’t afford something, then they can't have it. This book offers an approach to get you thinking more creatively about getting what you want.”

Van West says the book starts off with a Negotiation Boot Camp.

“I give you simple and easy to apply techniques that stimulate your thinking in what I call Run-and-Gun Negotiations. These are everyday scenarios where you can negotiate for a better deal, more value, a faster return time, or even a lower credit rating.”

Van West also teaches the reader how to recognise who he or she is dealing with and how to deal with them.

“This can be the ‘Monotone Monty’, the ‘Clock King’ or the ‘Drunk and the Useless’ types that can hinder your progress in negotiations.”

He says there are lots of advanced tactics called Power Tactics which he teaches for high stakes negotiations. “

The book costs U$0.99 (about N$16) through Amazon on Kindle and went on sale on Monday 31 August.

“Once things have settled down the publisher will handle book distribution for physical copies.”

Some of Von West’s other works include 4 Keys to Innovation, 12 Principles of Creative Leadership and 21 Creative Thinking Challenges.

“While most of my other work focused on the corporate structure of pushing for innovation in leadership, I felt there is a need for something a little more down to earth that everyone can use.”

The author says Namibia is a dynamic and creative country but that not enough people are taught how to use that creativity for business and success.

“I hope to help address this with my latest book, especially when it comes to our youth who may feel they can't compete with international businesses on a serious level. But, by learning to Think Like a Negotiator you can actually get what you want without giving up what you love most.”

This book is the first in a series called The Creative's Guide and is supported by the CASTLE Business Group who strive for the Creative Advancement for Stronger Thinking in Leadership and Education.

Von West works full time helping others develop their innate creative abilities to achieve success in business and their personal life. By using creativity tools and techniques, he facilitates and develops programs that are geared towards achieving success and has helped numerous individuals and companies get out of their own way, become more creative and achieve success.

“I do motivational teaching speeches that not only uplift but educate as well. I also provide tools and relevant techniques that work. With my experience of 20 years as a professional writer and teacher across the globe, I know and understand how involvement and storytelling is important to transfer knowledge,” he says.

The seasoned master of ceremonies for national and international events and professional speaker, infuses everything he does with humour, excitement and energy.

Von West was also the host and organiser of the first TedX Talk in Swakopmund in 2019.
