Swakopmund promenade extended

The Swakopmund promenade is being expanded to the Platz am Meer shopping centre after Nedbank Namibia made N$50 000 available for this purpose.

The bank presented the donation to the Swakopmund junior town council, who in turn made the money available to the town.

“I would like to thank Nedbank Namibia for this noble gesture, as not only does this reduce the financial outlay for the council, but it also benefits our residents who like to jog and walk on the beach for health and fitness reasons,” said deputy mayor Assertha Marsh.

According to Nedbank’s Richard Meeks, N$30 000 came from the bank, while the remaining N$20 000 came from Nedbank Desert Dash.

The expansion of the promenade should be completed in December, because “Platz am Meer has become our home in Swakopmund for the Nedbank Desert Dash,” he said.

Once again, more than 1 000 cyclists are participating in the race that starts in Windhoek on 12 December and covers 373km to Swakopmund before ending there on the 13th.

The Swakopmund promenade begins at the aquarium and is around 4km long. It currently ends around 800 meters from the Platz am Meer shopping centre.
