Henties Bay

The police in the Erongo region are investigating a case of murder and housebreaking with the intent to steal in Henties Bay.

One of the suspected thieves was shot by the home owner and died on the scene.

Deputy commissioner Erastus Iikuyu confirmed the incident.

Iikuyu said that five suspects broke into a house at Ilofa Camp Site during the early morning hours of Friday, at 02:00.

“The suspects unlawfully and intentionally forced open the front door of the house to gain entry and tried to rob the couple. One of the victims (husband) allegedly woke up, took a firearm and fired some shots at the suspects and hit one of them in the stomach. The wounded suspect died on the scene. The other four suspects fled from the scene, leaving behind a small axe and a panga.”

The deceased had a knife on him and was identified as a 36-year-old Namibian male through a driver’s license found in his possession.

“The four other suspects are still at large and the search is on to trace and arrest them,” said Iikuyu.

A case of murder was opened against the shooter, a 60-year-old Namibian male.

“The firearm used was confiscated and the pensioner has not been arrested pending finalisation of the investigation and the prosecutor general’s decision.”
