The man accused of allegedly killing his girlfriend by slitting her throat with a knife, Phillipus Hafeni Haihambo (54), remains in custody.

Haiambo, who was charged with murder read with the provisions of the Domestic Violence Act, made a first appearance in the Walvis Bay Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday. Magistrate Rhivermo Williams ordered that the accused remain in custody and postponed the case to 30 October.

Prosecutor Maggy Shinyagaya opposed bail in light of the seriousness of the crime, saying it is not in the interest of justice nor the administration of justice, to grant bail to the suspect.

Haihambo indicated that he would apply for a state lawyer to represent him during court proceedings.

Haiambo stands accused of murdering his girlfriend Hanguwo Otillie Mwateuvi (36) on Sunday evening at approximately 18:30 at their home in Kuisebmond.

According to deputy commissioner of the Erongo regional police force Erastus Iikuyu, “The accused allegedly stabbed the deceased in the neck, killing her instantly. It is not yet known what caused the suspect to commit the crime.”
