Erongo community policing commander Ileni Shapumba confirmed that members of the Namibian police, reservists and the Karibib District Watch successfully retrieved 13 of 16 stolen cattle.
He explained that a complaint was reported involving the theft of 16 cattle at farm Hiradaub in the Okahandja district on Monday afternoon.
“A team was immediately dispatched to the area and they searched for the missing cattle until sunset. The search resumed the next day (Tuesday morning) and lasted until sunset without success. During this time the names of three suspects were however obtained.”
The team stopped the search operation on Wednesday and waited for further information.
“At around 22:00 we received credible information on the location of the cattle. A team was again dispatched to the area. At around 02:00 on Thursday morning they located 13 of the stolen cattle in the mountains about 20 km from Karibib. The animals were coxed to Karibib police station. The search for the rest of the missing cattle and the suspects is still ongoing”
Shapumba applauded all members involved in the search operation.
He also requested anyone with information that could lead to the possible arrest of the suspects and recovery of the missing cattle to share such with the police.
