Sparta Hockey Club is making sure to leave a mark in the history books of Sparta United Recreational Club.
The club entered a ladies hockey team in the Bank Windhoek NHU National Outdoor League for the first time since it’s re-establishment in 2015.
The ladies started their season strong at home and undefeated by winning United Hockey Club 2-1, X-team with a score of 3-1 and Wanderers 3-0.
Windhoek Old Boys Sports Club (WOBSC) and Deutscher Turn and Sportverein (DTS) forfeited their games resulting in the Sparta ladies with points at hand and second on the log.
This past weekend the Sparta ladies traveled to Windhoek to play the remainder of the three games scheduled on the fixtures.
According to Ruzanne Snyman, vice-captain of the Sparta Ladies Hockey the team started off with a massive win against the University of Namibia (UNAM) hockey team in the morning. At the final whistle the score stood at 11-1 in favour of Sparta. The players of this game was Tari van der Merwe and Marika Neetling.
“The remaining two matches proved to be a real battle in the heat of Windhoek. We started off strong and kept our heads up. We unfortunately lost both games against Saints 1 (5-1) and Saints 2 (4-2).”
The ladies are now waiting to see who they will be playing in the Semi- Final on the weekend of 2 November in Windhoek.
“We will be preparing ourselves both physically and mentally within the next two weeks until the semi-final. This is to make sure we get positive results and hopefully make it to the finals. We would also like to say thank you to DME Namibia for the sponsored goal boxes.”
