Mense met troeteldiere wat moet isoleer weens Covid, sit soms het hul hande in hul hare om nog steeds vir hul viervoetige vriende te sorg.

Ute Holstein van Doggie Lodge Swakopmund het besluit om diegene wat hulleself in só ’n situasie bevind, te help: Sy neem honde van persone wat Covid-positief is, in en versorg hulle tot die eienaar weer op die been is.

“Ons het net ’n verwysing van die persoon se huisdokter nodig, dan versorg ons hul hond tot hulle weer gesond is,” sê Holstein.

Ongelukkig kan Doggie Lodge nie alle honde inneem nie.

“Ons het reëls van die munisipaliteit wat vereis dat alle honde gesteriliseer en ingeënt moet wees voor ons hulle kan inneem, en ons moet hierdie honde in spesiale hokke aanhou waarvan ons net twee het,” het Holstein gesê.

Sy sê die ondersteuning wat Swakopmunders in hierdie tye aan mekaar verleen bring vir haar vrede.

“Baie mense het vriende wat hulle troeteldiere versorg as hulle moet isoleer en dit is mooi om te sien, maar nie almal het daardie geleentheid nie. Ek dink vir ons is dit maar net belangrik om dit wat ons wel te kan doen, te doen.”
