'n Sopkombuis onder die toesig van Spar Hentiesbaai doen merkwaardige werk op die dorp deur gereeld kos aan minderbevoorregte gemeenskapslede te voorsien.

Die sopkombuis wat in Omdel geleë is, word vanuit 'n vraghouer bedryf, wat toegerus is met 'n stoof wat gebruik word om elke dag kos vir ongeveer 80 kinders voor te berei.

Volgens die departementele be­stuurder van Spar Hentiesbaai, mnr. Karel Agenbag, het die sopkombuis tydens die Covid-19-inperking drie keer per week kos aan meer as 400 kinders voorsien, asook niebederfbare kospakkies aan behoeftige lede van die gemeenskap.



Waardering

“Die mense waardeer die kos opreg. Party het in trane uitgebars toe hulle etes by die sopkombuis ontvang het. Dit wys hoeveel hulle die kos nodig het,” het hy gesê.

Die kinders ontvang gewoonlik 'n warm ete wat bestaan uit spaghetti bolognaise of enige ander soort pasta. Elke kind bring sy eie bord en eetgerei saam.

Die niebederfbare kos wat aan volwassenes uitgedeel word, bevat 'n sakkie mieliemeel, macaroni en geblikte vleis. Dit bied oor 'n langer tydperk 'n mate van verligting.

“Baie mense sukkel geweldig. Ons help waar ons kan,” het Agenbag gesê.

Hy moedig ander ondernemings op Hentiesbaai aan om mense in nood te help.

Hy het die plaaslike maatskappy, Seaworks Fish Processors, asook almal wat reeds bydraes gelewer het om te verseker dat behoeftiges op Hentiesbaai iets te ete kry, bedank vir hulle ondersteuning en bydraes tot die sukses van die projek.

Die sopkombuis is al 15 jaar in werking.
