Sop om die koue te verdryf

Alet Smit is hard aan die werk om 'n sopkombuis op Walvisbaai te begin wat spesiaal vir kinders van spesifiek dié kusdorp voorsiening gaan maak.

Die kusbewoner sê die sopkombuis gaan uitreik na kinders in die woonbuurte, Fairways, die Lagoon en Meersig.

“Baie kinders gaan veral in die winter honger skool toe sonder iets warm in hul maag. Daar is reeds mense wat Narraville en Kuisebmond help, so ek voel die ander gebiede verdien dit beslis ook, aangesien hier ook baie skole is met honger kindertjies.”

Smit sê mense is geneig om te dink diegene wat aan hierdie kant van die dorp bly, het geld, maar dit is nie altyd die geval nie.

“Ek ken baie kinders wat skaars 'n broodjie elke tweede dag het om te eet. Die Here het dit op my hart kom lê en ek vra asseblief vir almal se ondersteuning en hulp.”

Die idee is om die sopkombuis vanaf haar huis te bestuur.

“Die gedagte is om by 'n spesifieke skool te staan en dan die bakkies met 'n broodjie, sop en vrug uit te deel.”

Smit verkoop ook disse waarvoor sy uit haar eie sak betaal.

“Die geld wat ek kry, gaan dan weer na die sopkombuis. Dinge gaan maar stadig op die oomblik. Ek plaas gereeld alles wat ek verkoop op Facebook en vat dan bestellings die vorige dag.”

Sy sê enige skenkings is welkom as mense betrokke wil raak.

“Al is dit net 'n pakkie bone of 'n brood, enige hulp sal waardeer word. Ek wil soveel moontlik mense betrokke kry. Ek glo die kinders se glimlaggies is betaling genoeg.”
