Alfons Kanyetu, better known in music circles as Ally the Mini King, recently released his first solo project titled Son of the Soil.
The artist, who is part of the Swakopmund-based afro pop group Coastal Army, is also a full-time producer for Kings Family Records record label.
In an interview, the 24-year-old explained the concept behind the EP (extended play), which was released on 24 April.
“It is dedicated to my fans and it is about me, a son of the Namibian soil,” he said.
Son of the Soil, which consists of eight tracks, is available on various online music platforms including 066 hits and Donlu Africa.
Ally the Mini King’s favourite tracks are “Essential Worker”, “Open the Gate on me” and “Our Cattle Cannot Talk”.
“Every song has a different message. As for ‘Essential Worker’, it is all about the importance of workers who risk their lives so that we have access to basic needs. It encourages people to stay at home during the ongoing global pandemic,” Kanyetu said.
His musical career began in 2010 when he was part of the Vuma Boys in Rundu. When he moved to Swakopmund in 2016, he started working with Telly B, Snow Zee and Sky King. That same year, Ally the Mini King became an establishing member of afro pop group Coastal Army, known for hits like ‘Ada’ and ‘Work it’. These hits will be part of the group’s debut album Movie, scheduled to be released after lockdown ends.
Kanyetu has worked with various artists in Swakopmund like Bertholdt, Jericho, KaniBal, S-Man, Dik Bones, Magogoz, Chubby Beats, Paul Da Prince, Chester House Prince, Mabuzza, Bobby W.V.D.K, Karishma and many others.
According to the artist who also boasts solo singles like “Feelings”, “Mwana Kangili-gili” and “Jingala”, his biggest challenge remains getting his music out there for people to listen to.
Ally the Mini King thanked everyone who has supported him during his career so far, as well as his team at Kings Family Records who keep motivating him.
“I urge everyone to be safe during this difficult time and to practice social distancing and the necessary precautions for their own good.”
