Swakopmund-based rapper Smartboy recently released his latest single, “Mānū Bate”.

Smartboy is the stage name of Faith Namaseb (25).

“Mānū Bate” means “move aside” and was released on 29 December. It is available for streaming and downloading on Donlu and Youtube.

Smartboy co-produced the song with Edison and it will also be available on request via various radio stations across the country this week.

According to Smartboy, “Mānū Bate is one of his singles from his Perfection album and the song is a freestyle item.

“I was in Walvis Bay when I received the beat from music producer Edison Utale. I drove back to Swakopmund as soon as I had it because of the vibe it gave me. When I reached the studio, I played the beat and the idea came to me.”

Smartboy says the song is about him looking for a specific kind of lady.

“While I am searching for this special lady, other girls also cross my path. I keep on telling them to move away because I'm looking for someone specific.”

Smartboy is due to release his debut album Perfection in March. It features 15 tracks including “Mānū Bate”.

What is his recipe for creating a hit single?

“First of you need a high quality beat that will ‘wow’ the fans and listeners. The second ingredient is a killer idea and then you need to get out of your comfort zone and experiment. Then you also need recording techniques knowhow. Find the right engineer when you are done recording. This should be someone that will make your song go from 80% to 110%.”

The rapper is renowned for his trap rhyming style and recently performed his tracks “On Me”, “Levels” and “Revenge” at the 2019 Desert Summer Festival which took place in Walvis Bay in December.

“The festival was an event I have been waiting for. It gave me the opportunity to perform in front of hundreds of people and showcase my music. While it wasn’t that packed while I was performing, it was still an experience.”

The 2019 Desert Summer Festival drew top artists like South Africans DJ TIra, Kaygee da King and Ubizizi as well as Namibian award winning sensations like Top Cheri, One Blood, Adora, LMPC, Jaleel and Sunny Boy.
