Single Covid case reported in Erongo

The minister of health and social services Dr Kalumbi Shangula announced 41 new Covid-19 cases, 62 recoveries and one Covid-19 death.

He said that 1 077 test results were received from the laboratories and that of the new cases, 21 are male and 20 are female, with the youngest aged 12-years and the oldest 70.

The confirmed cases are distributed as follows: Windhoek (22), Oshakati (7), Onandjokwe (4), Rundu (4), Rehoboth (1), Walvis Bay (1), Gobabis (1) and Keetmanshoop (1).

The minister said that the majority of confirmed cases reported from Windhoek are mainly from densely populated areas such as Khomasdal, Otjomuise and Katutura.

“Although some regions reported few cases, this should not make us believe that Covid-19 is over. We encourage compliance with the preventive measures at all times.”

Shangula also announced 62 new recoveries from Khomas (220), Erongo (16), Hardap (10), //Kharas (8), Otjikoto (2) and Zambezi (3) regions.

Of the active cases, seven are in a critical condition; one patient in Erongo and six in Khomas.

The minister also announced one death which occurred in the Oshakai district.

“A 51-year-old male with comorbidities was referred from Opuwo district hospital to Oshakati intermediate hospital on 1 October 2020 with a medical complaint. The patient was admitted and swabbed for Covid-19 on the same day. His condition deteriorated and the patient passed away on the same day. The results returned positive. This is a Covid-19 related death.”
