Adrenaline-packed action

Adrenaline-packed action is expected when SFC Squash Club hosts the Visions Consulting Namibia National Squash Open this weekend.

According to event organiser Devon Savage, entries for the competition closed on 31 May.

“We have received 43 entries. We got players from all over the country taking part, and that is fantastic. We are currently finalising the draw,” he said.

Visions Consulting Namibia availed N$10 000 as prize money along with goody bags and t-shirts.

Although squash is not considered a contact sport, the adjusted Covid-19 regulation of only allowing 50 people at a mass gathering, has created some challenges. However, the club has found practical solutions.

“Typically, with squash the competing players would enter a venue 15 minutes prior to his/her match. They play their match and then leave. In terms of the number of people in the venue, we will not have more than 50 people in the venue at the same time,” Savage said.

The matches will be streamed live on the SFC Squash Club’s Facebook page. “We are also looking at streaming it through a monitor in another part of the club, so that people can view it without all being in the same venue,” he said.

Both the men and women’s finals will be played at separate times to prevent a crowd from flocking to the venue to watch them.

“People like to watch the final, so we won’t have everyone there at once.”

The action for the three-day competition starts on 4 June at 15:00.
