Sport hou talle kinders uit kattekwaad. Maar, in ons land waar sport gewoonlik nie in staatskole aangebied word nie, moet kinders elders daaraan gaan deelneem.

Dit is presies hier waar die SFC Jeugakademie ’n rol speel.

“Die doel van die akademie is om elke speler die geleentheid te gee om sy of haar vaardighede tot die hoogste vlak te ontwikkel. Ons wil ’n omgewing skep vir spelers om te oefen sodat hulle hul volle potensiaal kan bereik en waar spelers reeds op ’n jong ouderdom blootgestel word aan die moontlikheid van professionele sokker,” sê Swakopmund Sokkerklub (SFC) se tegniese direkteur, Gerald Güther.

Daar is op die oomblik meer as 120 kinders wat deelneem aan die program wat weeklikse oefensessies aan minderbervoorregte kinders bied.

“Ek dink die idee van die jeugakademie was nog altyd daar. Vir so lank as wat SFC bestaan, was daar nog altyd baie jong spelers. Boonop het ons altyd jong bloed nodig. Die akademie het sy ontstaan te danke daaraan toe ons meer begin fokus op die ontwikkeling van jong spelers,” het Güther verduidelik.

Die SFC Jeugakademie aanvaar seuns vanaf voorskoolse ouderdom tot o.17-vlak en meisies vanaf 5- tot 12-jaar is ook welkom.

“Ons soek nie na ’n spesifieke soort speler nie. Enigeen is welkom, want ons wil almal wat sokker wíl speel, die kans gee om te doen. Jy mag dalk nie die volgende Lionel Messi wees nie, maar enige kind wat lief is vir sokker is altyd welkom,” sê Güther.

Hy voeg by dat daar verskeie ander geleenthede vir die jeug in dié sport is.

“Sokker is so uiteenlopend en dit is ’n wonderlike ding. As jy nie die volgende professionele speler word nie, is daar baie posisies wat jy kan vul. Ek self het altyd gedroom daarvan om ’n professionele speler te wees, maar het nooit die vermoë gehad nie en ek het toe ’n afrigter geword. Jy kan ’n bestuurder word wat die daaglikse bedrywighede bestuur, ’n skeidsregter, ’n paramedikus of selfs ’n fisioterapeut.”

Güther voeg by dat daar deesdae selfs afdelings is wat slegs met statistieke te doen het.

“Ons het hierdie mense en informasie nodig sodat ons spanne op hul beste kan speel.”
