Seven new Covid cases for Erongo

The minister of health and social services, Dr. Kalumbi Shangula, announced 77 Covid-19 positive cases obtained from 1079 tested samples.

The Erongo region reported seven new cases with Swakopmund (3), Walvis Bay (2), Usakos (1) and Omaruru (1) all reporting new incidents.

The Khomas region once again reported the most new cases with 24 from Windhoek.

Oshana follows with 16 new cases from Oshakati while Hardap reported 13 new cases from Rehoboth. Kavango East also reported 10 new cases from Rundu and //Kharas reported six new cases from Lüderitz.

Omaheke region reported only one new case from Gobabis.

The minister said that all but one of the cases reported in the Oshana region are learners.

“The majority of them are from Okaukeujo Combined School; one of these is a learner at Iipumbu Secondary School.”

All 13 cases from the Rehoboth district are contacts to confirmed cases.
Shangula also noted that all the cases from Rundu are inmates in holding cells who had contact with confirmed cases.

The number of recoveries continues increasing, with 224 new recoveries announced. This brings the national total to of recoveries to 12 467.

The Khomas region recorded 219 recoveries. Omaheke reported three recoveries while the //Kharas and Ohangwena regions reported one recovery each.

Namibia currently has 842 active cases of Covid-19 of which 6 are in critical or severe conditions.

Friday update

Shangula announced 27 new positive cases of Covid-19 identified from 1 081 tested samples. This equals a 2.5% positivity rate.

Five of the newly reported cases hailed from the Erongo region with four reported in Swakopmund and internet one in Omaruru.

Windhoek reported seven new cases for Khomas region while //Kharas reported four new cases in Luderitz and one in Keetmanshoop.

Omusati reported four cases, three from Outapi and one from Tsandi.

Ohangwena reported one case each for the towns of Engela and Eenhana.

The Hardap, Oshana, Kavango East and Omaheke regions each reported only one case each.

According to the minister, three of the new cases from the Lüderitz district are healthcare workers.

For the first time in months, Namibia’s active cases stooped below the 1000 mark, with 989 cases currently active.

However, Walvis Bay, Windhoek and Oshakati each lost a patient to Covid-19. All had known co-morbidities.
