Ricardo Oxurub (35), a G4S security guard, went missing and has been on the run since 17 September after allegedly stealing from his employer.
According to a crime report, Oxurub and some colleagues booked out money from Bank Windhoek in Swakopmund to refill ATMs. They then departed to Ocean View SPAR.
Upon their arrival, Oxurub remained in the vehicle to guard the remaining cash that was intended for an Arandis ATM, while his colleagues refilled the ATM.
When his colleagues returned to the vehicle, they found that Oxurub and the money he was supposed to be guarding, were missing.
Inspector Illeni Shapumba, unit commander for community affairs in the Erongo region, confirmed that the suspect has been located and arrested at a ghetto in the DRC location of Mondesa, Swakopmund, after a tip off from the public.
“The accused was found in the company of friends (two women and two men) at a place where they spent the night. Following a tip off from a member of the community, police members from Swakopmund including detectives, acted promptly and upon their arrival at the scene, found the suspect drinking alcohol with his friends. He attempted to run away but was apprehended and detained by the police.”
Shapumba said that N$12 800 was found in a plastic bag on the body of the suspect.
“The place he was found and other places were also searched, but no other cash was found. Due to the fact that the suspect was still drunk, the police were unable to formally charge him earlier. He is however, charged now and will appear in the Swakopmund magistrate’s court on Monday.”
Police investigations are still at an infant stage.
Shapumba applauded the public for their continued support to the police in crime combating and urged community members to continue doing so.
He congratulated both police officers and members of the public for a job well done in apprehending the suspect.
