Rivers countrywide continue to carry water
04 March 2020 | Weather
After good rains fell over the weekend, numerous rivers still carried water by Monday, with reports that amongst other, the Omaruru River continued to flow into the Omdel dam, although the Swakop River had not yet reached Goanikontes in spite of the sluices at Von Bach being opened on Sunday night.
The C19 gravel road was impassable for several hours because the Tsauchab River came down heavily on Sunday morning, while the Fish, Khan, Kuiseb, Nossob, Konkiep and many others also carried water on Sunday and Monday.
Good rainfall was recorded in the central south on Sunday, with the Gondwana Collection reporting that 60mm was measured at the Canyon Roadhouse after a cloudburst.
At Karasburg up to 70mm was measured and 65mm near Stampriet.
The Omdel dam also finally received some water, with hundreds of residents from the central coast gathering there to witness the event.
According to the weather agency, only sporadic precipitation is expected in the Zambezi region for now.
