'n Vermeende glyjakkals wat vir 'n maand saam met sy gesin in 'n gastehuis op Swakopmund gebly en glo nie betaal het nie, is in die kusdorp se landdroshof borgtog geweier.

Mnr. Corné van Tonder (45) het verlede week op 'n bedrogklag voor landdros Conchita Olivier verskyn.

“Die beskuldigde het geweet dat hy nie die finansiële middele het om vir die akkommodasie, kos en drank by die gastehuis te betaal nie,” lui die klagskrif.

Volgens die gastehuiseienaar is Van Tonder wat saam met sy vrou en vier kinders vanaf 1 tot 30 Desember daar tuisgegaan het, op 31 Desember in hegtenis geneem.

Die koördineerder van misdaadondersoeke in die Erongostreek, adj.komm. Erastus Iikuyu, het Van Tonder se inhegtenisneming aan Republikein bevestig, maar gesê hy is op 1 Januarie amptelik aangekla.

Volgens die gastehuiseienaar sou Van Tonder en sy gesin vanaf 1 Desember slegs vir ses dae by die gastehuis bly “want hy wag vir die koop van sy nuwe huis op Vogelstrand om afgehandel te word.”

Hierna het Van Tonder gesê die mynmaatskappy wat hom Swakopmund toe gestuur het, is vir die rekening verantwoordelik.

Die Kaapse mynmaatskappy, met die moedermaatskappy in Nigerië, het wel 'n e-pos aan die gastehuis gestuur dat hulle die akkommodasie en kos sou betaal.

Republikein is besit van die dokumentasie en kommunikasie tussen die gastehuis en maatskappy.

Die koerant se oproepe en e-posse na die maatskappy se besturende direkteur, het onbeantwoord gebly.

“Boonop het Van Tonder se skoonma op 16 Desember uit Suid-Afrika geland en ook by die gastehuis ingetrek. Daarna is die gesin vir Covid-19 getoets en moes hulle in die gastehuis isoleer.

“Hulle het op skuld in die restaurant geëet. Ons het nie 'n sent gekry van die N$151 430 wat hulle skuld nie,” het die gastehuiseienaar gesê.

In 'n WhatsApp-boodskap het Van Tonder aan die gastehuiseienaar gesê die maatskappy het die akkommodasiegeld in sy rekening oorbetaal, maar in die hof het hy volgehou die maat­skappy is verantwoordelik vir die betaling aan die gastehuis.

Staatsaanklaer Cleopatra Boois het borgtog teengestaan omdat dit 'n ernstige oortreding en omdat die beskuldigde 'n vlugrisiko is.

“Hy is 'n Suid-Afrikaanse burger met geen vaste adres in Namibië nie,” het Boois gesê.

Van Tonder het aan die hof gesê hy is ook 'n Namibiese burger en nie 'n vlugrisiko nie.

Die landdros het gelas dat hy in aanhouding bly en het die saak tot 15 Februarie vir verdere ondersoek uitgestel.

Die gastehuiseienaar sê Van Tonder woon al twee jaar op dié kusdorp waar hy glo ander besighede ook ingeloop het en wil graag die publiek waarsku.

'n Eienaar van 'n skool het aan Republikein bevestig dat Van Tonder in 2019 nie skoolfonds betaal het nie, maar die klag is “ter wille van die kinders” laat vaar.

Die gastehuiseienaar sê die “beloftes hou nog steeds aan hulle sal betaal, maar tot nou toe is nog niks geld in die bank nie”.

Van Tonder en sy gesin het op 30 Desember verblyf by 'n ander gastehuis op die kusdorp gaan soek en dit is ook daar waar hy in hegtenis geneem is. Vriende van hom het glo die gesin se rekening daar betaal.
