Police bust cannabis cultivators

Three young men were arrested in Walvis Bay during two separate drug busts for cultivating, harvesting and being in possession of cannabis.
A 17-year old learner and his 21-year old brother were arrested at around 15:30 on Tuesday. The duo were found in possession of two bankies of cannabis seeds (615g) and 66 cannabis plants at their house in 7th Road.
Regional crime coordinator deputy commissioner Erastus Iikuyu said the value of the cannabis is estimated at N$30 900.
“They were arrested during a police action and appeared in the Walvis Bay Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday. Investigations into the matter continue.”
In another case, a 21-year old was arrested at 6th Road East on Monday, and faces similar charges.
“He was arrested for cultivating a cannabis plant (30g) and being in possession of cannabis (55g). The total value is estimated at N$4 250. Investigations into the matter continue.”
Four individuals were arrested on charges relating to the contravention of the nature conservation ordinance. The charges include the hunting of government property and the hunting of huntable game without a permit.
“The suspects allegedly hunted five oryx valued at N$20 000 with dogs and spears. They did so without a permit in the Namib Naukluft Park in the Walvis Bay area on Sunday. Only three oryx carcasses were recovered.”
The four suspects were arrested. They are Fanuel Khuisab (29), Richie Herero (56), Diedrick Dauseb (29) and Jason Mwatota (19). The accused appeared in Walvis Bay on Monday and they were not granted bail. The case was postponed to 20 August.
