Zhanray Titus; Photographer, “…it’s vital that as small business owners help each other…”

Three local entrepreneurs collaborated for a photoshoot portraying what is currently happening in the world. Zhanray Titus (photographer), Cara-Lee Johannes (lash technician) and Davinna Matatias (make-up artist) produced a series of eye-catching photos.

Titus said that Johannes was the brainchild behind the initiative. “She is a home-based eyelash technician and the founder and owner of EyeCandy Namibia. It started as a conversation between her and Davinna, who is the founder and owner of Makeup by D’vinna. Words became actions, and the ladies decided to involve me as the photographer. Now we are showcasing our skills as a collective.” The trio encouraged the public to apply to be face models for the project and three lovely ladies were selected.

Titus said that when they were fine tuning the shoot details, he had a specific photo in mind. “I wanted it to speak to what is currently happening in the world. With the Covid-19 pandemic, almost everything came to a standstill and life hasn’t been the same since.” He said that with the photos and collaboration, they wanted to encourage business owners and the community at large with the message “we will get through this”. In one particular photo, the model is wearing a black mask, covering almost her entire face, yet there are flowers growing. “This is just to show that despite the darkness, something beautiful will come from it.”

Aside from joining forces with two dynamic ladies, Titus said that he will definitely collaborate with other creatives in future. “We are here to support and encourage each other’s success. It’s vital that as small business owners we come together and help each other grow, and give exposure and credit where credit is due.” He encouraged local creatives to never give up. “If you have a black mask on, just know that something beautiful will blossom. Follow your dreams and start somewhere. Always remember it’s not just about money, but about the passion you have. With that you can’t go wrong.”

Titus said he was grateful to Cara-Lee for coming up with this idea and taking time out of her busy schedule to make sure this collaboration became a reality.
“Davinna travelled from Windhoek to be here. She chose to do this while she could have spent time with family. Also, thank you to our models Cal-lee van der Colff, Aisha Loveira and Tamlin Damon.”
