Die mediese fonds Namibia Health Plan (NHP) het onlangs sy Welstand Ope Dag gehou.

Lede van die publiek kon hul bloeddruk, glukose- en ­cholesterolvlakke gratis laat toets.

Mense se gewig en lengte is geneem en dié inligting sal saam met ander uitslae gebruik word om 'n basiese gesondheidsverslag saam te stel.

Elke besoeker het 'n NHP-gesondheidsgids ontvang waarin die uitslae van die minimaal indringende toetse opgeteken is. Die gesondheidsgids bevat ook riglyne vir en die uitslae van die glukose-, bloeddruk- en cholesteroltoetse.

Daarna het 'n verpleegster dit met hulle bespreek en kon besoekers persoonlike gesprekke met verskeie gesondheidspesia­liste voer.

Estelle van Zyl, 'n biokinetikus, het gesê die ope dag is belangrik omdat mense nie altyd bewus is van biokinetika nie en dit dikwels vergelyk met fisioterapie, wat dit nie is nie.

Prudence Swartz sê die vooraftoetse het haar as dieëtkundige baie gehelp om pasiënte se persoonlike toestand te kan aanspreek.

“Ek hou daarvan, want dit is interdissiplinêr.

“Ons het die gim, 'n biokinetikus en oogkundiges, so as daar iets fout is wat ek nie kan diagnoseer nie, kan ek die persoon eenvoudig net in die regte rigting wys.

“Ek hou daarvan om soveel mense te kan help.”
