Pensioner killed in Henties attack
08 June 2021 | Crime
Police in the Erongo region are asking for public assistance in obtaining information relating to a housebreaking and attack on an elderly man this weekend at the holiday resort.
Unknown perpetrators entered the property of Carel Johannes Thomas (83).
Indications are that they initially broke all the windows and a door and could not gain entry to the house due to the burglar bars.
At the time the victim was not at home.
When Thomas returned home, the culprits ambushed him (possibly on Sunday), gained entrance to his residence and assaulted him.
They stole his rifle, a pistol and television set among many other items.
Thomas was discovered in his sitting room. It appears that he was beaten with a rake and spanner among other unidentified weapons.
According to the police report, a friend of the victim became concerned when he did not answer his phone and sent someone to check on him.
The victim was rushed to Cottage Private Hospital but succumbed to the injuries he sustained.
The police are requesting assistance in tracing the suspect/s who besides murder, could also face charges of housebreaking with intent to rob and robbery under aggravating circumstances, and malicious damage to property.
Any person with information on this matter is urged to contact the Erongo police regional crime investigation coordinator, deputy commissioner Erastus Iikuyu on 081 246 4757, det. c/insp. Daniel Gurirab at 081 233 3745, det. w/o(1) Sacky Shikalepo at 081 273 5662, or any police station.
