Ná president Hage Geingob se aankondiging van ’n noodtoestand weens die teenwoordigheid van Covid-19 in die land, is skole gesluit met die nuus dat die eerste termyn verkort is en die oorblywende twee skooltermyne aangepas word.

Die aankondiging het verrykende gevolge gehad, met baie ouers wat moes skarrel om oppassers te reël of ’n ooreenkoms met werkgewers moes aangaan om te verseker dat hul kinders versorg word.

Daar is ook kommer oor die hoeveelheid werk en eksamens wat skoolkinders gaan mis.

Datums
Die nuwe skooldatums is as volg:
Eerste termyn: 5 Januarie – 13 Maart. Die eerste termyn sou aanvanklik uit 58 skooldae bestaan het, maar weens die Covid-uitbreking was dit nou net 42 dae lank.
Tweede termyn: 14 April – 29 Julie. Die tweede termyn sal aanvul waar die eerste termyn geskort het, met 70 skooldae in vergelyking met die oorspronklike 43 skooldae.
Derde termyn: 24 Augustus – 4 Desember. Leerlinge gaan vanjaar ’n korter derde kwartaal hê, met net 54 dae in dié termyn in plaas van die beplande 66.
Dit bring die totale aantal skooldae vir 2020 op 179 te staan, wat 28 skooldae méér is as oorspronklik vir die skooljaar beplan.

Die direkteur van onderwys in die Erongostreek, Ernfriede Stephanus, het voorgestel dat ouers steeds hul kinders op datum hou met skoolwerk.

“Ek beveel ook aan dat daar ’n studierooster opgestel word.”

Stephanus kon egter geen inligting verskaf oor die weg voorentoe óf oor die eksamens wat opgeskort is nie.

“Dit moet in konsultasie met die skole beplan word. Ons sal meer inligting kan gee gedurende die eerste weke ná die skole weer opem.”

Die Wêreldgesondheidsrganisasie (WHO) beveel self-kwarantyn van twee weke aan om die verspreiding van die virus te bekamp.
