Dr Kalumbi Shangula; Health minister; “We have noted a reduction in the positivity ratio for the past 16 days, despite the increase in number of tests performed.”

The minister of health and social services Dr Kalumbi Shangula announced that 592 Covid test results were received from the laboratories of which only 11 tested positive. Of the new cases, five are male and six are female, with their ages ranging from 13 to 72-years.

Shangula said that it took Namibia 74 days to reach 12,000 cases from 2 224 cases at 1 August to 13 October 2020, recording 9 776 cases, representing 81% of the total confirmed cases.

According to the minister, the number of days to reach a thousand cases varied.

“The minimum days were 3 days recorded from 22 to 24 August, with a positivity rate of 18%; and maximum days were 16 with a 6% positivity rate.”
