Die onderburgemeester van Swakopmund, Maria Elago, is hierdie week as ‘n lid van die Rotariërsklub Swakopmund ingehuldig.

“Die doel van hierdie organisasie is om altyd ons beste te doen om vriendelikheid en samesyn te bevorder asook om ‘n verskil in ons gemeenskap te maak deur ons beroepe met integriteit aan te pak,” het Phillip Oosthuysen klublede by die geleentheid herinner.

Kimberley Tyler, ‘n Amerikaanse vrywilliger, is saam met Elago ingehuldig. Sy was ‘n lid van haar plaaslike Rotariërsklub, maar is toe vir ‘n tydelike pos na Namibië oorgeplaas.

“Ek het met niks hier aankom nie en alles was vreemd. Rotariërs is iets wat vir my bekend is en het baie gehelp met die aanpassing in my nuwe wêreld.”

Anja Rohwer het aan die groep gesê dat Elago altyd “suster Maria sal bly” want sy is ‘n verpleegster van beroep.

“Sy is ‘n sterk, vriendelike, opregte vrou en ‘n goeie voorbeeld vir almal. Sy is altyd bereid om te help. Ek kyk op na haar. Sy is vir my ‘n rolmodel want sy doen altyd ekstra moeite vir ander.”

Op haar beurt het Elago gesê dat haar lidmaatskap aan die Rotariërs ‘n groot eer is.

“Dit is vir my buitengewoon spesiaal en die klub kan maar gerus op my knoppie druk vir hulp.”
