Die munisipaliteit van Swakopmund het agt splinternuwe Golf GTI’s ryker geword.
Die tender is in middel Augustus aan Autohaus Swakopmund toegeken en al agt voertuie is binne ses weke volgens spesifikasies voorberei.
Me. Sonita Pienaar, die bestuurder van Autohaus Swakopmund, het gesê dat hoëverrigtingmotors nodig is – die GTI se spesialiteit. “Hulle het hoëverrigtingmotors nodig en die vorige voertuie was al oud – dit was nodig om op te gradeer,” het sy gesê.
Sy voeg by dat die nuwe Golf GTI’s ideaal is vir polisiebegeleiding wat gereeld teen hoë spoed gebeur. “Hulle moet kan byhou met begeleiding wat gereeld van Walvisbaai se lughawe af tot Hentiesbaai plaasvind. Die voertuie kan dus nie te stadig wees nie,” sê sy.
Die agt beamptes wat ‘n voertuig ontvang het, moes opleiding by Drive Well Namibia ontvang.
Mnr. Melvin Cloete van die Swakopmund verkeersdepartement het gesê die afdeling het klagtes ontvang van die president se kantoor dat begeleidingsvoertuie nie by die spoedperk kon hou nie. “Die voorwaarde waarop die begroting goedgekeer is, is dat ons hoëverrigtingmotors moes kry,” sê hy.
Cloete reken die voertuie wat voorheen gebruik is nie meer lank sou kon dien nie.
