The coastal community was left reeling after a well-known businessman lost his life in a motor vehicle accident.
Pieter Myburgh (55), who was the manager at the Food Lover’s Market in Swakopmund, died in a car accident on Wednesday evening.
According to regional crime coordinator deputy commissioner Erastus Iikuyu, Myburgh was travelling alone from Walvis Bay to Swakopmund in a Toyota Quantum which belongs to Citi Produce.
“He allegedly lost control of the vehicle and it overturned at the curve in the vicinity of Vierkantklip. Myburg died at the scene and his body was transported to the Swakopmund State Hospital where he was declared dead by a medical doctor. His next of kin have been informed and investigations into the matter continue.”
A case of attempted murder is being investigated after an incident in Meersig, Walvis Bay, on Tuesday.
Ikuyu said that the suspect, Gert Jacobus Jooste (38), had attacked and assaulted the victim (46) with a piece of wood.
“The two men were quarrelling and the suspect hit the victim over the head several times. The victim was taken to a local hospital from where he was transferred to a hospital in Windhoek in a critical condition. He sustained serious head injuries and a contracture on the brain.”
The suspect was arrested and appeared at the Walvis Bay magistrate’s court on Thursday.
The case was postponed to 8 October 2020 for further investigations. The suspect was not granted bail.
