Nog 'n hupstoot vir kankervereniging

Die Kankervereniging van Namibië se grootste geldinsamelingsveldtog was weer eens 'n reusesukses.

Die Erongo-tak van die Kankerver­eniging van Namibië (CAN) het Saterdag sy grootste, jaarlikse geldinsamelingsveldtog, die Hats and Roses-geleentheid, op Swakopmund aangebied.

Ongeveer 490 vrou het die geleentheid­ bygewoon waar die Suid-Afrikaanse sangeres Sonja Herholdt as hoofkunstenaar opgetree het.

Celeste de Klerk, van die Erongostreek se CAN-kantoor, het gesê dit was 'n emosionele dag gevul met baie gelag en kuier.

“Ons het die geleentheid met 'n 'Toast to Life' begin en almal betrokke in die stryd teen kanker vereer. Daarna het ons video's vertoon om te verduidelik presies waaroor die vereniging gaan. Ons het ook die vrywillige werker wat die langste in ons diens is, me. Hildegardt Geduld, vereer. Sy is self 'n kankerlyer, maar help steeds getrou waar sy kan.

“Verskeie pryse was ook op die spel.

“Daar is heerlik geëet, gedrink en gekuier. Ons het die vroue in ons lewe wat ons aan kanker verloor het, asook dié wat die geveg gewen het, herdenk en vereer. Ons het mekaar aangemoedig en waardeer.”

De Klerk het al die borge bedank: Woermann Brock (hoofborg met N$50 000), Momentum Namibia (N$15 000), die Swakopmund Hotel en Vermaaksentrum (saal), Mikel Jes (klank en verhoog) en Distell Namibia.

“Sonder julle sou ons nie so baie mense kon help nie.”
