He said that of the new cases, 65 are male and 53 are female, with the youngest aged four months and the oldest 88-years.
“The number of results today is low compared to the usual tests we have been recording due to a technical challenge experienced. Today’s remaining results will be added to tomorrow’s number,” Shangula said.
The new cases are distributed as follows: Windhoek (81), Rehoboth (8), Mariental (2), Swakopmund (6), Omaruru (2), Usakos (1), Omuthiya (2), Tsumeb (1), Oshakati (3), Rundu (3), Keetmanshoop (1), Luderitz (1), Okahandja (1), Otjiwarongo (1), Eenhana (1), Engela (1), Oshikuku. (2) and Opuwo (1).
The minister added that as from 29 August 2020, with the re-introduction of stage 3 of the State of Emergency countrywide, 15 036 laboratory tests with an average of 1 367 tests per day, were conducted. “Of these, we recorded 2 022 (13%) confirmed cases, with an average of 184 cases daily. Khomas recorded the highest number of cases, totalling 1 334 (66%), followed by Erongo with 201 (10%).”
Compared to 11 days before Stage 3 was announced, 15 283 specimens were tested at an average of 1 389 tests daily, through which 2 562 (17%) cases were confirmed – an average of 233 confirmed cases daily.
“This is a 4% reduction in the number of confirmed cases in the last 11 days compared to the same period before the re-introduction of Stage 3 of the State of Emergency.”
A reduction in cases has been observed in seven regions: Erongo, Khomas, Omaheke, Omusati, Oshana, Oshikoto and Zambezi.
The minister once again urged Namibians to continue adhering to precautionary measures to interrupt further transmission and spread of the infection.
The 175 recoveries are distributed as follows: 156 from Erongo, five each from Khomas, Otjozondjupa and Omaheke, and four in //Kharas.
Of the active cases, 19 are in serious to critically ill condition. In Erongo, one patient is seriously ill and three are in critical condition. In the Khomas region, five are seriously ill, while 10 are in a critical condition.
