Met die nasionale hengelkampioenskap om die draai, sê die toernooi se hoodbeampte, Danie du Toit, dat Covid-19-maatreëls ’n invloed het op kompetisiegees.

“Weens die huidige maatreëls kan ons nie ’n openingseremonie hou soos gewoonlik nie. Dit is eintlik jammer, want daar is klubs van regoor Namibië wat kom deelneem en die openingseremonie gee almal kans om skouer te skuur. Die gespoggery en die uitdagings begin reeds daar,” sê hy.

Tans sal net die kapteins van die verskillende spanne en beamptes vir die openingseremonie byeenkom. Du Toit skat hulle sal ongeveer 24 mense wees.

Die prysuitdeling wat die laaste aand van die kompetisie gehou word, sal ongelukkig ook nie alle deelnemers en beamptes kan betrek nie. “Ons dink egter daaraan om dit in twee te deel. Die prysuitdeling is die hoogtepunt van die kompetisie en dit sal glad nie spesiaal wees as ons die wenner per e-pos aankondig nie,” sê Du Toit.

Hy meen daar sal steeds plek gemaak word om verteenwoordigers van die Namibiese Sportkommissie te akkomodeer. “Ons wil graag hê hulle moet ons nasionale hengelaars bevestig en beaam dat ons by die voorgeskrewe maatreëls hou,” sê hy.

Die kompetisie sal vanjaar tussen 140 en 160 deelnemers verwelkom en Du Toit sê hy is opgewonde daaroor om meer kompeterende hengelaars by vanjaar se kompetisie te verwelkom. Die toernooi vind vanaf 18 tot 20 Maart plaas en die vangsareas sal binnekort vasgestel word.

“Ons as beamptes sal vooraf met die kapteins ontmoet en die drie vangsareas bepaal. Ons gaan dit natuurlik bepaal deur die weer, getye en stroomvoorspellings na te gaan,” sê hy.

Du Toit voorspel dat die areas rondom die Winston-wrak, Myl 8 en Jakkalsputz moontlike vangsareas kan wees.
