The Namibian Ports Authority (Namport) and the Meat Corporation of Namibia (Meatco) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The two entities aim to use this collaboration to strengthen their commercial ties by utilizing the Port of Walvis Bay to export Meatco’s premium beef products, therefore adding to the export volumes handled by Namport.
This partnership is beneficial to both entities as beef products are destined to international markets like the USA, Europe, China, Norway and some parts of Africa, while Namport has direct vessel connections to a majority of these destinations, thus guaranteeing the shortest time to market.
“This [agreement] heightens our competitiveness as organisations and as a country. Besides taking Meatco’s products to international markets, it also directly promotes Namport’s services to supply chains in the SADC region,” said Namport chief executive, Andrew Kanime.
The agreement focuses on ensuring the seamless, efficient and cost effective handling of Meatco’s products, jointly exploring new opportunities, and the development of new technologies and facilities.
