Visepresident Nangolo Mbumba het onlangs Sertum Ener­gy Namibia se N$120 miljoen-sonkragaanleg by Orano se Trekkopje-myn ingewy.

Die 5 megawatt- fotovoltaïese aanleg lê in die Trekkopje-myngebied en beslaan ongeveer 37 000 hektaar.

Mbumba het gesê hernubare energie is die katalisator vir en ruggraat van alle sosioëkonomiese aktiwiteite vir die land se ontwikkelingsagenda.

“Bevindinge toon dat produksie van hernubare energie tussen 1995 en 2016 met positiewe impak op ekonomiese groei in ontwikkelde én ontwikkelende lande geassosieer word. Dus kan die belang van hierdie sektor in enige vooruitstrewende ekonomie nie genoeg beklemtoon word nie, aangesien ononderbroke kragtoevoer die ruggraat van ons nywerheidspogings sal vorm.”

Die Erongostreek verbruik sowat 180 MW elektrisiteit in huishou­dings en ondernemings. Hiervan sal 5MW per jaar voortaan deur die nuwe sonkragaanleg verskaf word.

Die adjunkminister van mynbou en energie, Kornelia Shilunga, het gesê die projek het 'n positiewe impak wat betref kragvoorsieniening aangesien die land minder op ander lande sal staatmaak. “Dit is duidelik 'n mylpaal.”

Sertum Energy Namibia het 'n 25 jaar-kragaankoopooreenkoms met NamPower onderteken.
