Daar is ‘n nuwe huppel in die 12-jarige Jonas Shilongo se stap nadat hy onlangs 'n kunsbeen van New Life Medical Provider in Swakopmund ontvang het.

Verskeie individue en organisasies het ongeveer N$140 000 ingesamel om die skenking moontlik te maak.

Jonas, 'n leerling by die Orange Gekombineerde Skool, is met 'n gestremdheid gebore en woon by sy ouma op Okando in die Omusati-streek.

‘n Klein voetjie wat in die teenoorgestelde rigting aan sy regterbeen gegroei het, moes weens mediese redes geamputeer word.

Pogings om Jonas te help, het in Julie 2019 in alle erns begin toe 'n video waarin hy sokker speel in die sosiale media verskyn het.

‘n Verbyganger het Jonas afgeneem terwyl hy die bal saam met sy vriende skop. Die video het soos ‘n veldbrand versprei.

Nadat die NBC ‘n onderhoud met Jonas gevoer het, het nog meer mense kennis van die merkwaardige seun geneem.

Me. Fenny Nakanyete het 'n trust gestig om geld in te samel om 'n prostese vir Jonas te koop. Saam met me. Selma Shiyanga-Iiyambo en andere is N$49 000 aan die trust geskenk.

Verskeie ander gemeenskapslede en sakeondernemings is ook deur Jonas se pleidooi geroer.

Mnr. Frans Mbidi se onderneming Atlantic Food Services het N$25 000 bygedra. Logitech het N$10 000 geskenk en New Life Medical Provider, die praktyk van dr. Jannie Schoeman en Green Vine het gesamentlik N$46 000 gegee om Jonas se droom te bewaarheid.

Tydens 2019 se jaarlikse Namibiese sporttoekennings in Ongwediva is die eerste Gemeenskapsinspirasietoekenning aan Jonas gemaak. Hy het sodoende nog N$40 000 ontvang.

Volgens ‘n lid van die reëlingskomitee, me. Salome Iiyambo, gaan hierdie prys voortaan elke jaar deel van die nasionale sporttoekennings wees.

"Ons het gevoel ons moet aan die gemeenskap teruggee,” het sy verduidelik. “Jonas is ‘n merkwaardige jong man wat nie sy gestremdheid in sy pad laat staan nie.”

“Baie dankie aan die Namibiese gemeenskap vir die beskikbaarstelling van die geld,” het Jonas tydens die oorhandiging gesê. “Ek is baie opgewonde dat ek 'n been gekry het en ek hoop dieselfde kan vir ander soos ek gedoen word. Ek is baie lief vir sokker. My gunsteling spelers is Lionel Messi en Cristiano Ronaldo, omdat hulle goed speel en baie doele aanteken,” het Jonas gesê.

Jonas se droom is om sy land in sokker te verteenwoordig.

Dr. Schoeman, wat Jonas ook met terapie bystaan, het gesê hy was verbaas die seun kon reeds tydens sy eerste poging sy nuwe been gebruik. Die meeste pasiënte neem langer om dit te vermag. Die rehabilitasieproses sal duur totdat die dokter tevrede is.

Jonas sal die kunsbeen vir vyf jaar kan gebruik voordat dit vervang moet word. Die voetstuk moet elke jaar vervang word namate die jong seun groei.
