The minister of health and social services Dr Kalumbi Shangula said that 1 146 results were received from the laboratories and of the new positive cases, 48 are male and 33 are female, with the youngest aged six months and the oldest 68-years.
The confirmed cases are distributed as follows: Windhoek (46), Swakopmund (2), Walvis Bay (2), Usakos (1), Omaruru (1), Karasburg (3), Luderitz (2), Keetmanshoop (1), Mariental (5), Rehoboth (1), Okakarara (3), Okahandja (2), Rundu (4), Eenhana (2), Engela (1), Onandjokwe (2), Omuthiya (1) and Katima Mulilo (2).
The minister was upbeat about the fact that all districts reported a single digit number of cases, with the exception of Windhoek.
“Let us maintain this trend by complying with public health measures. We have noticed an increase in the number of cases in closed facilities including hostels, prisons and police holding cells. It should be noted that close settings provide the perfect environment for the transmission of communicable diseases. However, where clustered cases were reported in close settings, the appropriate measures were taken.”
The minister also announced 247 recoveries: 133 from Khomas, 66 from Otjozondjupa, 37 from Hardap, 6 from Ohangwena, 3 from Omaheke, and 2 from the Kunene region.
Of the active cases, 11 patients are in serious to critical condition. In the Erongo region, one patient is seriously ill, while two are in critical condition. In the Khomas region, three are seriously ill and five are in critical condition.
